“As palavras são como pedras arremessadas aos outros/Words are like stones thrown at others” and five “Flower buckets” lay in the space of the exhibition, occupying 2 corners of the room, created by a wall separation, resembling an interior space or walls on the streets. 

Words is titled after a sentence taken from an interview given by the portuguese poet, Daniel Faria. For the pieces, the technique of the stencil is used as a tool for spreading messages and dissiminating words in different surfaces, especially in the public space, connected to political statements and revolutionary acts. The objects are placed leaning on the wall, waiting to be used. The sentences come from my self-published book, Blue Hour.  Only one of the sentences is appropriated from another person, a portuguese female politician (that reads “Não, não pode”, and translates to “No, you may not”).

Five Flower buckets are placed in the exhibition floor. They are created by the use of a practical object, used commonly in flower markets for storing and displaying flowers. By appropriating the functional element of the flower bucket - that comes from another context, there is a connection to the functional element that belongs to a specific area of labour and market - that we relate to and consume from - and to flowers themselves, as characters represented in the pieces, and their different uses: for decoration, food, relationships, manifestation. The pieces allow the spectator to sit on them, providing a space for reflection for the future.
